Radiology is the medical specialty that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the body.
A variety of imaging techniques such as X-ray radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine including positron emission tomography (PET), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used to diagnose or treat diseases.
Interventional radiology (IR) is the performance of (usually minimally invasive) procedures with the guidance of imaging technologies.
The modern practice of radiology involves several different healthcare professions working as a team, including radiologists, radiology technologists and nurses.
The radiologist is a physician who has completed the appropriate post-graduate training in diagnostic radiology and interprets medical images, communicates these findings to other physicians by means of a radiology report.
There are now many subspecialties in the field of radiology as there are in other fields of medicine such as medicine and surgery.
To provide state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging services for patients in accordance with the local rules and regulations as well as training of students, fellows and contributing to research in the field of specialty.
The department aims to basic rules, namely:
1. The service of patients and their doctors who specialize in various diseases in different branches of medicine in this hospital as well as outside the hospital, in both diagnostic and therapeutic with advanced scientific methods and developed means as per the ongoing development.
2. Science teaching of radiology science and it complementary advantages for the students of the Faculty of medicine, as well as for doctors who wish to make radiology science a professional future through establishing educational programs or participating in educational programs within this special medicine department in a theoretical and practical pattern by giving lectures and professional training.
3. Research: includes research and practical applications to develop benefit from radiology sciences in all its fields with the aim to develop these sciences and ease the daily use of radiology, hence generalize its benefits.

Medical students (Third year ): Different lectures are given on the basics of Radiology imaging related to the different systems of the body.
The active participation in teaching the students of the Faculty of Medicine in the new curriculum
Distinguished scientific research in the specialized fields and publishing in superior scientific journals
Membership of the scientific and administrative committees in the Faculty of Medicine and University of Jeddah
Sponsoring of the cultural, social and athletic extracurricular activities of the students of the Faculty of Medicine
Providing of part-time consultations to the governmental and private hospitals and colleges of medicine in Makkah region
